Quy Nhon has a tropical monsoon climate with hot, humid weather most of the year, and the annual average temperature sits around 27–29°C. From March to September it is mostly dry and sunny (dry season), while from October to February rainfall increases sharply as the region comes under the influence of monsoons and typhoons.
Rainfall peaks between September and November, with November being the wettest month, while February and March are the driest. December to February is relatively mild but still humid, whereas May to August is very hot, humid, and sunny, making it the peak season for beach holidays.
Quy Nhon’s Seasons in a Nutshell
Meteorologically, Quy Nhon is divided into dry and rainy seasons, but for travelers it is easier to think in terms of four seasons: spring (February–May), summer (June–August), autumn (September–November), and winter (December–January).
Spring (February–May)
In spring, temperatures generally range from about 23–32°C, making the weather mild to warm with very little rain. It is considered one of the most pleasant times of the year to visit. The sky is usually clear, the sun is strong enough to bring out vivid sea colors, and the waves tend to be calm, so it is a great time for snorkeling, island hopping, and boat tours.
Humidity and perceived heat are lower than in summer, which makes it comfortable for beach walks, city sightseeing, and café hopping. Compared with the absolute peak months of July and August, there are fewer tourists, so you can enjoy both the beaches and the town in a more relaxed atmosphere.
Summer (June–August)
Summer temperatures hover around 26–34°C, with intense sunshine and long daylight hours. This is the most popular season for travelers who want to focus on swimming, snorkeling, and island tours. Sea temperatures are high and water visibility is good, offering ideal conditions for island trips (such as Ky Co, Eo Gio), diving, and other water activities.
The weather is generally sunny and clear, though short, sudden showers may occur in the afternoon, briefly cooling the air and clearing the sky.
Autumn (September–November)
Autumn marks the transition into the rainy season, with temperatures around 24–31°C but a sharp increase in both rainfall and the number of rainy days.
In October and November, the indirect impact of typhoons and tropical depressions brings frequent heavy rain and strong winds, and this is when Quy Nhon sees its heaviest annual rainfall. As a result, many sea-based activities are often canceled. On the plus side, tourist numbers drop and accommodation prices generally fall, making this a good time for those who prefer “quiet beaches + local eateries and cafés” over busy resorts.
Because sea conditions can change quickly, you should always check marine forecasts and weather updates in this period, and build in a buffer day as well as a Plan B (city sightseeing, cafés, hot springs, etc.) in case boat or island tours are canceled.
Winter (December–January)
Winter in Quy Nhon is much milder than in central or northern Vietnamese cities, with temperatures around 19–25°C. On many days a light long-sleeve top and a windbreaker are all you need. Rain is still more frequent than in spring or summer, but it is not bitterly cold, so it is a comfortable time to enjoy beach walks, viewpoints, temples, and historical sites.
Sea and air temperatures drop, so this is not prime time for swimming and snorkeling, but on calm days you can still enjoy light activities like boat rides or kayaking. Overall, the atmosphere is quiet and laid-back, perfect for a slow-paced trip focused on relaxation, local life, cafés, and food.
Best Time to Visit Quy Nhon
The best time to visit Quy Nhon is during the dry season from March to August. During this period there is very little rain and plenty of clear skies, providing ideal conditions for beach holidays and island tours.
From March to May, temperatures are around 24–31°C—warm but not as scorching as midsummer—making this the “golden season” for comfortably enjoying beach walks, boat trips, and snorkeling.
From June to August, it becomes hotter and the sun more intense, but sea temperatures are high and conditions are perfect for swimming and all kinds of water sports. These months are especially popular with domestic travelers, and hotel rooms and resorts often sell out quickly, so it is wise to book well in advance.
From September to the following February, Quy Nhon enters its rainy season. In particular, October and November can be heavily affected by typhoons, with frequent heavy rain and strong winds that often lead to the cancellation of sea-based activities. Even so, from December to February temperatures become cooler and crowds thin out, which gives the city a different charm for travelers who prefer a quiet, slow trip centered on local cafés and restaurants.
For first-time visitors, March–May is ideal; if your top priority is beach and water activities, aim for June–August. If you value tranquility and good value for money, late December to early February is a great option.
Monthly Weather and What to Wear
January
January is the coolest month in Quy Nhon, with average temperatures around 22–26°C and noticeable sea breeze in the mornings and evenings, which can feel quite chilly. Rain still appears occasionally, but overall rainfall is lower than in autumn, and many days are overcast, so the perceived temperature may feel lower than the actual reading.
It is better suited to beach walks and sightseeing rather than swimming. A light windbreaker or cardigan to block the sea breeze is essential.
Recommended outfits:
Long-sleeve T‑shirts or light knits, long pants, a windbreaker, comfortable sneakers, and a light scarf for early mornings and evenings.
February
February is similar to January, with temperatures around 22–27°C. Rain gradually decreases, but many days are still cloudy and windy. When the sun is out, daytime feels pleasantly warm, but shade and nighttime can feel cool, so layering with pieces that are easy to put on and take off is key.
Sea swimming is still not ideal; focus instead on city walks, cafés, and viewpoints, and always check the weather if you are considering a sea tour.
Recommended outfits:
Layered short-sleeve and long-sleeve tops, light cardigan or windbreaker, long pants or midi skirts, and lightweight sneakers or loafers rather than sandals.
March
In March, the dry season begins in earnest, with temperatures rising to around 24–29°C. Rain is rare and clear days become more frequent. The sea becomes calmer, the sun stronger, and this is often considered the first good month to start beach activities and island tours.
Daytime can feel hot, but mornings and evenings are still fresh, so one light outer layer is enough to stay comfortable.
Recommended outfits:
Short-sleeve T‑shirts, linen shirts, shorts or midi skirts, sandals, plus a hat, sunglasses, and a light cardigan for sun and breeze protection.
April
April brings mostly warm to hot weather, with average temperatures around 26–31°C and very little rainfall—expect many consecutive sunny days.
Conditions are excellent for beach swimming, snorkeling, and boat tours, but UV levels become stronger. You may sweat during the day, so choose breathable fabrics and carry a light layer for air-conditioned indoor spaces.
Recommended outfits:
Cool short-sleeve tops or sleeveless shirts, linen or cotton shorts and skirts, maxi dresses, sandals, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a light cardigan for indoor air conditioning.
May
In May, average daytime highs reach around 33°C and the real heat of the year begins. Rain is still rare and sunlight is very intense. Sea temperatures are high and this is one of the busiest times for swimming, snorkeling, and island tours. However, midday heat can feel harsh.
Plan outdoor activities for the morning or late afternoon, and reserve midday for cafés or indoor sightseeing.
Recommended outfits:
Highly breathable short-sleeve or sleeveless tops, linen pants or shorts, maxi dresses, sandals, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and sweat-wicking fabrics.
June
June is one of the hottest months of the year, with average temperatures around 28–34°C and high humidity that makes the heat feel intense. Rain is still infrequent, and the sea looks beautiful, but direct sunlight is very strong, raising the risk of heatstroke with prolonged exposure.
Schedule water activities for early morning or late afternoon and rest in the shade or indoors during the peak midday sun.
Recommended outfits:
Cool sleeveless tops or short-sleeve shirts, linen or cotton shorts and skirts, maxi dresses, sandals, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a thin windbreaker for sun and over‑air‑conditioned interiors.
July
July continues the June heat, with temperatures again at about 28–34°C, many clear days, and occasional brief showers. This overlaps with the Vietnamese summer holiday season, so beaches and attractions can be very crowded and hotels and resorts often book out.
Sea conditions are generally good, but the UV index is very high, so sun protection and hydration are critical.
Recommended outfits:
Moisture‑wicking short-sleeve tops or tank tops, shorts and skirts, maxi dresses, sandals, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and an extra top to change into after sweating.
August
August remains hot and humid at around 27–33°C. There are still many sunny days, but brief afternoon showers become a bit more frequent. It is still an excellent time for beach activities, but it is wise to pack an umbrella or light raincoat for sudden showers.
Midday heat is still strong, so plan most outdoor time for mornings and evenings and allow generous rest breaks.
Recommended outfits:
Lightweight short-sleeve or sleeveless tops, linen or cotton shorts and skirts, maxi dresses, sandals, a foldable umbrella or light raincoat, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
September
In September, temperatures ease slightly to around 26–32°C, but the region transitions into the rainy season and rainy days gradually increase. Early in the month there are still many clear, sunny days, but by mid to late September, showers and heavy rain become more common and the sea can be less predictable.
If you are planning island or boat trips, always check the weather forecast and prepare alternative plans in case tours are canceled.
Recommended outfits:
Short-sleeve tops or linen shirts, shorts or midi skirts, sandals, a light raincoat or umbrella, a hat and sunglasses, and a light cardigan for cooler air after rain.
October
October marks the beginning of the full rainy season, with comfortable temperatures around 25–30°C but a sharp increase in rainfall and number of rainy days. The indirect influence of typhoons and tropical depressions brings frequent heavy rain and strong winds, and ports are sometimes closed, resulting in canceled boat and island trips.
In this period it is more realistic to focus on city sightseeing, cafés, museums, and local food rather than beach-centered plans.
Recommended outfits:
Fast‑drying short-sleeve and long-sleeve tops, long pants or midi skirts, waterproof sandals or sneakers, an umbrella or light raincoat, and a water-resistant bag.
November
November is one of the rainiest months of the year, with temperatures around 24–28°C and frequent rainy or overcast days. Winds pick up and waves become rough, so while beach walks are still possible, swimming, boat tours, and island trips are often restricted.
However, tourist numbers drop significantly and accommodation is cheaper, making this a good season for quiet local travel, café hopping, and photography.
Recommended outfits:
Long-sleeve T‑shirts or linen shirts, long pants or midi skirts, waterproof sneakers or sandals, umbrella or raincoat, a windbreaker, and a water-resistant backpack.
December
December temperatures are around 22–27°C, with less rain than November but still many cloudy and windy days. While the prime swimming season is over, it is a very pleasant time for beach walks, viewpoints, temples, and historical sites.
The sea breeze can feel quite chilly, so a good windproof outer layer will make your trip much more comfortable.
Recommended outfits:
Long-sleeve T‑shirts or light knits, long pants or midi skirts, a windbreaker or light jacket, comfortable sneakers, and a light scarf.
