Guangzhou Seasonal Weather & Recommended Attire

Guangzhou features a subtropical monsoon climate characterized by warm, humid weather with a relatively mild climate throughout the year.

Spring (March to May)

Spring is a relatively warm and humid period in Guangzhou. Daytime temperatures range from 15-25°C, offering mild weather, though high humidity can make the air feel muggy. Rainfall increases during this season, and by May, the rainy season begins in earnest.

Recommended Attire: Lightweight long-sleeved shirts or light jackets are ideal. While days are warm, evenings can be cool, so bringing a light outer layer is advisable. Prepare an umbrella or waterproof jacket for sudden rainfall.

Summer (June to September)

Summer is the hottest and most humid season in Guangzhou. Daytime temperatures reach 28-35°C, with heat waves sometimes occurring. Summer marks the peak of the rainy season, and typhoons are possible, requiring extra caution.

Recommended Attire: Breathable light clothing, t-shirts, and shorts are suitable. Pack a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to shield from strong sunlight. A compact umbrella is essential for sudden showers.

Autumn (October to November)

Autumn is the best time to visit Guangzhou, with daytime temperatures around 20-28°C, offering comfortable and pleasant weather. Rainfall decreases significantly, and humidity becomes more moderate, creating crisp, refreshing days.

Recommended Attire: Lightweight shirts, long-sleeved clothing, and a light outer layer are sufficient.

Winter (December to February)

Winter is the driest and coolest season, with average temperatures between 10-20°C. While warmer than Korean winters, morning and evening temperatures can drop slightly, making it feel somewhat chilly.

Recommended Attire: Lightweight sweaters, cardigans, or light coats are appropriate. A scarf is useful on windy days.

Best Time to Visit Guangzhou

The ideal periods to visit Guangzhou are autumn (October-November) and early spring (March). During these seasons, weather is mild, rainfall is minimal, and exploring major attractions comfortably is easy.

Summer is hot and humid, but modern shopping malls and indoor attractions allow you to escape the heat. Winter offers a quiet, cool experience for those preferring a more relaxed pace of travel.

Autumn (October-November) experiences the highest occupancy and rates due to pleasant weather. December-March (winter) and June-August (summer monsoon season) are off-season, with cheaper hotel rates and flights available at 50,000-150,000 won.
