Best time to visit Bali

If you have decided to visit Bali, Indonesia’s most popular destination, you should decide when to visit. Bali is a tropical climate, but if you visit without checking weather, you precious holiday can be ruined.

Weather in Bali

Bali is not far from the equator and is a hot and humid tropical climate.  The average maximum temperature is 28 to 30°C, and the average minimum temperature is 23 to 25°C, so the temperature difference is not big throughout the year. However, there is a big difference in precipitation.

The four seasons in the temperate region are not here, but only dry and rainy seasons exist.  Many people visit Bali during the dry season from May to October.  There is also a shower at dry season, but it doesn’t fall often and much.

July to August of the dry season is the highest peak season, and holiday seasons such as Easter, Christmas, and the New Year are also the highest peak seasons.

When?: May to October.

Weather in dry season: Temperature does not vary much throughout the year, and the biggest difference is precipitation and humidity. There are showers even during the dry season, but it’s not as intense as during the rainy season.

What to wear in dry season: Bali is hot all year round, so you must prepare cool clothes including short-sleeved clothes and shorts. In case of sudden heavy rains that are hard to avoid, it is recommended to carry light and breathable raincoats along with travel umbrellas during your day trip.

 

Weather in May

The dry season begins in May. The heat remains, but humidity decreases.  While Ubud in central Bali is relatively humid, coastal areas such as Seminyak, Zimbaran, Candidasa , and Nusadua are rapidly decreasing precipitation.  May is a good time to travel because there are not many visitors as the dry season begins, and the weather continues to improve.

Weather in June

In June, precipitation continues to decrease, but the temperature remains constant. June is the best month to enjoy Bali’s beaches, and visitors begins to increase, but it is not as crowded as July and August, the peak summer season. It’s good to visit the popular west coast in good weather before a large crowd move in.

Weather in July

Peak season in Bali begins in July. High temperature remains high, but rainfall and humidity drop significantly.  There are many sunny days, but it sometimes rains in the afternoon. Accommodation costs rise a lot in July because there are many visitors. If you are planning to visit in July, you’d better make a reservation in advance.

Weather in August

August is the peak season like as July, with the least precipitation and the largest number of visitors. 17th August is Indonesia’s Independence Day, and many Indonesian tourists visit Bali.

Weather in September

September is also the best month to travel to Bali. It rains little by little, but September is one of the driest months of the year.  You can enjoy good weather on the beach, and there are fewer visitors than in August, so it’s good to visit temples.  September is the time when the sea is the clearest, so it’s good to scuba dive.

Weather in October

The weather is nice in early October, but precipitation begins to increase at the end of October.  The humidity rises, and the temperature is high.  You can enjoy the beach in October, but it’s not easy to visit inland areas due to rain.

Rainy season

When?: November to April.

Weather in rainy season: Even in rainy season, the temperature is high and sometimes rises above 30ºC .  There are not many visitors because of the high humidity due to the heavy rain.  Except for Christmas and the New Year, the rainy season is off-season in Bali.

What to wear in rainy season: As in the dry season, it is recommended to prepare light and cool short-sleeved clothes and shorts to keep your body cool.  Light raincoats and umbrellas are essential to always carry around.

Weather in November

In November, precipitation increases a lot compared to October.  After a short heavy rain, you can see the clear sky.  You can enjoy the beach in Bali in November, but there are few visitors in inland areas.

Weather in December

December is Bali’s second-largest month of precipitation, with violent showers accompanied by storms. The weather is not good, but it is the peak season with many visitors because of the Christmas holiday. Visitors stay in relatively less rainy beach areas.

Weather in January

January is the month with the most precipitation in Bali.  It is hot and humid in the morning, and strong showers fall in the afternoon. If you must travel in January, it is recommended to stay in southern coastal area because it rains relatively less than other area in Bali.

Weather in February

February has less precipitation than January, but it still rains heavily and hot. It rains relatively less in the northern Lovina beach area than in the southern area of Bali.

Weather in March

March is still rainy season, but rainy days decrease and sunny days begin to increase.  Since it rains less on the northern beach in March, it is recommended to set up accommodations in the northern beach area and travel inland or other areas.  The Hindu New Year (Nyepi) is in March, and during Nyepi, most businesses in Bali are closed, so be careful.

Weather in April

In most areas of Bali, precipitation decreases a lot and humidity decreases, making it easier to move.  At this time, it is recommended to stay in the coastal area because it rains a lot in central Bali, such as Ubud.  The surfing season on the west coast of Bali also starts in April.  You should be careful because The Hindu New Year (Nyepi) may be in April.

When is the best time to visit Bali?

The best time to visit Bali is June and September.  If you look at the weather, you can visit anytime from May to October, the dry season.  However, June and September are one of the least rainy months, and July and August are the time to avoid tourists flocking from the world during the peak tourism season, and prices, including accommodation, are cheaper.
